World Economic Forum (WEF) placed Finland again sixth in its Global Competitiveness Report. Finland’s ranking remains the same for third year. Switzerland tops now the overall ranking.

The United States falls from top to second position, with weakening in its financial markets and macroeconomic stability. Singapore, Sweden and Denmark round out the top five.

”According to the comparison, Finland’s competitiveness is still very good. The most significant increase in Finland’s rankings concern financial market sophistication and technological readiness”, says Dr Markus Koskenlinna, Executive Director for Tekes Impact Analysis.

The Global Competitiveness Report 2009–2010 covers altogether 133 countries. The top ten countries are Switzerland, the United States, Singapore, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Japan, Canada and the Netherlands.

The rankings in the Global Competitiveness Report are calculated from both publicly available data and the Executive Opinion Survey. This year, some 13,000 business leaders participated in the study. The survey is designed to capture a broad range of factors affecting an economy’s business climate. The Report also includes comprehensive listings of the main strengths and weaknesses of the 133 economies featured in the study.
