Celebrating 30 Years of Building Cultural Bridges

The Spanish-Finnish Chamber of Commerce warmly congratulates the Finnish Institute in Madrid, the Instituto Iberoamericano de Finlandia, on its 30th anniversary.

For three decades, the Institute has played an important role in building connections between Finland, Spain and the wider Ibero-American world. Through art, culture, science, dialogue and international collaboration, it has brought together people, ideas and communities while strengthening relationships across borders.

Three decades of exchange and collaboration

Founded in 1996 in cooperation with the Complutense University of Madrid, the Finnish Institute has developed into an active platform for exchange between Finland and the Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking world.

Through exhibitions, events, discussions, festivals and multidisciplinary projects, the Institute has created opportunities for Finnish artists, researchers, cultural professionals and organisations to connect with new audiences and partners. Today, it continues this work from Madrid's historic Barrio de las Letras, while its activities and networks extend far beyond the city itself.

Culture and international connections

At the Spanish-Finnish Chamber of Commerce, we believe that strong international relationships are built through connections between people and organisations.

While our work focuses primarily on business, professional networks and economic relations between Finland and Spain, culture has an important role in bringing countries and communities closer together. Cultural exchange creates understanding, opens new perspectives and builds relationships that can also pave the way for new forms of collaboration.

We therefore greatly value the Finnish Institute in Madrid's contribution to strengthening connections between Finland, Spain and the wider Ibero-American world.

Its 30th anniversary is also an opportunity to recognise the many people, artists, researchers, professionals, partners and communities who have contributed to this work over the years.

Looking towards the future

Thirty years is an important milestone, but also an opportunity to look ahead. International dialogue, cultural understanding and collaboration remain as relevant as ever, and we look forward to seeing the Institute continue to create new opportunities for exchange and cooperation.
