Is Generative AI Our Friend Or Not?
Is Generative AI Our Friend Or Not? - Young Professionals Network
Following our successful launch, the Young Professionals Network (YPN) is back with its second event! Join us at IE University as we explore one of the most defining themes of our time: Is Generative AI Our Friend Or Not?
“What do I, as a young professional, need to know about generative AI?”
We have all heard stories of how AI in general, and generative AI in particular, boost performance. Yet, recent Fortune articles suggest an "AI productivity paradox" proposing that AI actually makes us work more, not less, and puts a significant strain on employee workload.
On April 16th, in collaboration with IE Business School, we are hosting a discussion to examine this shift. We are joined by Dr. Rana Farag, Head of Google Cloud AI (EMEA-S), to explore the practical impact of these technologies.
Our conversation will focus on a question every young professional and entrepreneur must face: "What do I need to know about generative AI right now?" Given the rapid pace of these advancements, we believe it is essential to frequently revisit and update our understanding of the field.
A fireside chat with Rana Farag
The evening features a fireside-format chat between Dr. Rana Farag and Mikko Ketokivi (Professor at IE Business School), followed by commentary from Johanna Jacobsson (Adjunct Professor at IE Law School and Founder of Lawcrosse).
After the chat, we invite you to stay for refreshments to connect with the YPN community. It is a great opportunity to meet fellow young professionals and our speakers, and to continue the discussion in a more relaxed setting.
Guest Speakers
Dr. Rana Farag
Dr. Rana Farag holds a Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence from Carlos III and an MBA from IE Business School. She has managed global AI product portfolios, scaled multiple tech startups. She is currently the Head of Google Cloud AI (EMEA-S)
Johanna Jakobsson
Adjunct Professor at IE Law School and the CEO/Founder of Lawcrosse, a legal consultancy
Moderator
Mikko Ketokivi
Professor of Operations Management and Organization Design at IE University.
Event Details
The event takes place at IE University on April 16th.
The event is free of charge but requires registration
When you register, you can also submit questions you would like Rana, Johanna, and Mikko to address in their conversation and commentary.

Webinar-series Part 1
Thank you to everyone who joined our first webinar in the series! We had a great session discussing what it is really like to expand your business to the Iberian Peninsula. If you missed it or want to revisit the key takeaways, here is the summary of the practical advice shared by our speakers: Marko Kiippa (Pinja) and Ira Elisa Lemmetyinen (Openrelo).
Success is Systematic
One of the most important lessons is that you cannot simply rely on your existing brand when moving to a new region. You have to earn local credibility from scratch before deals can happen, which is why entering a new region is like starting a new company. This requires constant analysis to understand exactly what the local market needs and how your Go-To-Market strategy should adapt. A successful entry also depends on your team, making relocation a strategic priority, not an administrative task.
The Importance of Local Presence
In Spain, business is built on personal relationships and trust. That’s why the market cannot be managed effectively from a distance. Having a local presence or working with local partners is essential for building the necessary networks. It’s also worth noting that your specific location within Spain can play a role in your success.
Marko Kiippa, Business Unit Director, Pinja
Marko shared how Pinja secured its first two major clients in Spain’s bioenergy sector. One of the key lessons was that you cannot assume your product fits a new market as it is. Selling a Finnish SaaS solution to traditional industrial companies requires both a solid understanding of the new market and a willingness to adapt your approach. This is why thorough market research is essential. It helps you shape your solution to match what the local industry is looking for.
Ira Elisa Lemmetyinen, Openrelo
Ira Elisa highlighted that a proper relocation is a form of risk management that directly affects how your team performs. It’s a strategic decision that shapes the company’s success in a new market. Whether you rely on expats to transfer company culture or local hires who know the market, the challenges of settling into a new life must be taken into account in your market entry plan.
